WEDNESDAY

I apologize about the sporadic postings, but with the time difference and the busy schedule…. I do what I can….  J
Today was our last day with the orphan street kids from the train station.  They are such precious young people.   We arrived in time to participate and worship with the boys, then spent the rest of the day playing with them.  The toys that these boys play with are in such horrible shape, in the states they would be refused by Goodwill and thrown away.  It’s a reminder to be grateful for all that we do have.
We spent the day playing games such as racing matchbox cars, playing toss or jump rope, and we even taught them how to play duck, duck,  goose.  While we were playing these games I had been watching one specific boy who had escaped to the corner to play with the broken and dirty toys that were available at the center.  He had distanced himself from the rest of the group and was playing alone.  I went over to talk to him, which he wouldn’t make eye contact or acknowledge my presence, so I just sat with him and stacked legos (Keep in mind these were broken legos so this was a challenge).  After some time watching him and playing next to him I was able to figure out what he was doing.  He was organizing everything and specifically sorting the 6 or 7 mish-mash of playing cards into similar types.  He had what appeared to be a concrete sequential thought process, which is very similar to me! J  As I began helping him organize the cards and different toys he looked up and smiled at me, then continued on with his work.  It was so precious and I was so glad to be able to connect with him.
This was our last day at this program and it was a hard goodbye…. We finished up with teaching them to sing “Jesus Loves you” with hand motions and all…. They loved this new worship song.  Then as we were gearing up to leave one of the boys who had turned his life around because of this program asked us if we knew “Come now is the time to worship” and if we could sing with them.  The teachers joined us in singing this song, but the kids did not recognize it, so they watched our lips to try and mimic the words…. It was an incredible moment that caused our entire team to tear up.  It has to be said that this growing ministry is doing incredible work in the lives of these boys… and we as a university team have been incredibly blessed to not only witness this but to learn from them!
Tomorrow we are headed to a feeding line provided and facilitated by mercy hospital and another school apart of the RHINO project (Reaching Hundreds of Indian children Now with One dollar a day), then to a Hindu temple.  Please continue to keep our team in your prayers as several are becoming ill with flu like illnesses.
