It is Sunday afternoon here and we started the day by being woken up by the daily Muslim prayer call at about 5:00am. This worship call lasts about 20 minutes and is a part of the Muslim culture. As frustrating as it may be to be woken up so early, it is a beautiful tradition.
Breakfast today was chicken liver and eggs…. Thank goodness for the many protein bars I brought. J In general though the food has been excellent! Everyday it’s a little different and so good…. A lot of curry, rice, vegetables, chicken, and some fish. Never any beef, as cows are sacred to the Indian culture.
Today we went to church which was an incredible experience. It was an Assembly of God church and was founded by the Butane’s who also started the Mercy Hospital ministry. The church was beautiful and packed full of people worshiping Christ…. This place was amazing and alive with the Holy Spirit.
Unfortunately, today we are stuck indoors as there is political rally or unrest taking place through tomorrow…. So for our safety we have been asked not to step outside of the visitor’s center. This is a blessing in disguise as I have about 6 assignments due while I am gone so this free time will force me to work on them.
Tomorrow we will be travelling about an hour out of town to a program that was established by an elderly Indian man who provides showers and a warm meal to orphans living in the nearby train station. These children are as young as 3 years old and have become orphans through either running away from home or being kidnapped and released. Mercy hospital is hoping to partner with this gentleman in his efforts to care for these children.
